If only I could loose 3 kilos, then I'd be happy!

This morning I am using my husband's laptop to post my blog and I was looking through some old photos, and this one inspired today's post. All my bodybuilding pics are on his computer so I don't see them daily as I do with stuff on my laptop.
Why did I choose this picture? Well, this shot is taken about 6 weeks before my last figure competition in 2005 and while I have no idea what weight I was I am guessing I was about 3 or 4 kilos leaner than I am now. I am still a little heavy since returning from the US, and hear myself saying the the 3kg loss chant daily
I hear the chant weekly from clients, friends and other people that I chat to all the time. "If only I were xkgs lighter I'd be happy."
So let's talk about those 3-4 kgs. If I really made the effort, this is what it would take. I would need to spend the next 8-10 weeks saying no to all those dinner and party invitations, I would have to say goodbye to Sunday morning sleep ins with the late yummy brunch. I'd need to be extremely vigilant with my food and pack all my meals for work, and probably ring ahead at events to ensure I could get what I needed. My supplement bill would go through the roof and in about 4 weeks I'd be sick of the sight of lean protein and vegetables. I'd be in bed by 8pm and out by 5am, and my friends would have stopped asking me out because I would always say no.
Maybe those extra kgs are there to remind us that there is always a price, or a sacrifice to everything we want to achieve, and maybe we need to look a little deeper than our abs for happiness?
So breakfast - egg whites and spinach or smoked salmon omelet at a great cafe down the road?

Hi Lisa

Love your blog. Your last few entries have really struck a chord with me. Are you able to show us what a typical days eating is like for you, or you dont have a typical day??!!I noticed that you mentioned below that a good quality fish oil is essential. How do we know which brands are good quality? By the way, I also love the kosmea products :)

Thanks

Jac

Hi Jac,

I am pleased you are enjoying my blog. I am happy to post what a typical day's food looks like and I will do this tomorrow.

Fish oil should be bought at a health/organic store or pharmacy. You need to look for the EPA/DHA levels of at least 240mg per 1000mg tablet. Biocueticals and Nordic Naturals are good brands, and the liquid is preferable.

Excellent, thanks so much for the tip Lisa. Are there any brands of protein powders that you can recommend? I currently use a lady bird blend and also dymatize. I would love to find one that tastes ok but also has the health benefits attached. Alot of the powders on the market have too many nasties in them :) When you say liquid you mean the liquid capsules or a liquid that i drink?? If i have fish oil daily, is it ok to have flaxseed oil also? My trainer told me to have one of the other??

Jac,

It is a good idea to rotate protein powders so you don't develop sensitivities to them. Musahi protein is good quality, as is buying natural protein powder and adding what you need to it. I prefer to do the latter.

When I refer to liquid fish oil, I men liquid in a bottle you drink. It is Ok to have flaxseed oil in addition to fish oil, but does not replace it. Fish oil is more important and is far more stable that liquid flaxseed oil.

great post Lisa. I always thought I'd be happier if I lost weight, I have since lost about 10kg but am only happier because I have changed the person on the inside, not because my size has gone down. oh and i still have fat days- bah! xx

Hi Steph,

If weight loss is the result of living a healthier life you will be happier from treating your body well, however if it just for asthetics you don't get the same benefits you often can feel worse for the effort.

Congratulations on the 10kgs!
